Did You Know...

... that the World Challenge 2013 includes the new Dynamic 4way event?

World Challenge 2012 party in the Flowhouse
posted Jan 16th, 2013 - The first scores of the 2013 season came from the Czech Republic. They were generated at an indoor competition, as the weather in Central Europe does not allow much outdoor jumping in the winter time. The next scores will be posted this weekend at SkyVenture New Hampshire where Ben Liston is hosting his annual indoor competition. The NSL News will be at the competition site for live coverage.

The US outdoor season usually begins with the Valentine's Meet on the west coast (Eloy) in February and the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship, including the annual Shamrock Showdown $$$ Skins Game, on the east coast (DeLand) in March. However, teams and competitors don't have to wait any longer through the long winter break until they can test their skills at the indoor meets.

The Aerokart Championship in Paris, France, and the Paraclete XP Indoor Championships in Raeford, North Carolina, offer opportunities in February, and the longest running and biggest indoor competition in the world follows in April, the World Challenge 2013 at Bodyflight Bedford.

Defending 2012 champion: NMP-PCH Hayabusa
The World Challenge has been growing year by year (12 - 19 - 39 - 47 - 52 - 63 - 77) and accommodated the record number of 77 teams in the five 4way categories last year. The event was launched by owner Paul Mayer in 2006, and the three competitors who have attended every single meet ever since, NMP-PCH Hayabusa's Roy Janssen, David and Andy Grauwels, are coming back to defend their title this year. Hayabusa won the event for the first time in 2012.

Paul Mayer started with only one category (AAA) in 2006 and 2007 and added the AA Class in 2008. The Rookie Class followed in 2010, and all four NSL categories were finally applied in 2011. Paul Mayer eventually decided to create a separate leaderboard for the female 4way category, as well, and there was great participation and exciting competition on each of the five leaderboards last year.

Only the VFS 4way event was missing. This has forced Paul Mayer's own team, Bodyflight Black Majik with Joey Jones in the lineup, to apply their freeflying skills by signing up for the Rookie Class (2011) and then the A Class (2012) and fly the sequences upside down. The World Challenge has traditionally included a 2way Freeflying event, but Bodyflight Black Majick is a 4way team.

Paul Mayer and Joey Jones and their 2013 team mates now have the opportunity to become even more creative and face more serious 3-dimensional challenges. The World Challenge 2013 includes a new 4way category, which is similar to VFS 4way but not the same. 4way Dynamic Freeflying is the name of the new event, and the brief description of it can be found on the event page.

The World Challenge has always had a great jackpot for the winning teams, and this year's event brings additional price money of £3,000 (approx. $4,800) to the new category. The 4way Open Class teams in the first four places will share a total of £11,000 (approx. $17,500) between each other. Another £3,000 (approx. $4,800) are in the jackpot for the 2way Freeflying teams.

The list of teams is growing and already includes the first big names. Reigning indoor NMP-PCH Hayabusa will be challenged by Arizona Airspeed's new lineup with three recently crowned 4way outdoor world champions and Chris Farina. The NSL News will introduce the field of teams step by step. Paul Mayer offers a £50 (approx. $80) discount for the teams who sign up for the event until 1 February 2013.
