Did You Know...

... that Gamma Ray had three different Center Outsides within one week?

Exit training with Center Outside Shannon Pilcher
posted May 9th, 2013 - The NSL News covered the situation before the start of the 2013 competition season in Germany with a few previews. The story on 1 April 2013 provided an overview while the new EADS lineup was visiting in DeLand for a spring training camp. The story on 30 April 2013 followed up with the introduction of another German 2013 medal contender, Gamma Ray.

Last not least, the German national team of the past years and reigning champion, Paratec-Saar, clarified that the team will continue, only with a different lineup, and the story on 6 May 2013 followed up with the 2013 plans.

EADS and Gamma Ray both trained with their new lineups, and the NSL News introduced Gamma Ray's new Point, Janine Tillenburg, with the second update from Germany.

Last training day with coach and videographer Shannon Pilcher
Gamma Ray did not have much luck with the weather when the new lineup tried to get to know each other in freefall. The team had flown together in the Bottrop wind tunnel before traveling to Florida, and they were planning to work on exits and subterminal pages after the promising tunnel sessions.

It became a very challening situation for Gamma Ray to make it through the spring training camp. Center Outside Uli Sehrbrock reported that it began with trouble at the customs and immigration services after arrival from Germany. His skydiving equipment caught the attention of the officers, and the inspection with unusual procedures lasted long enough for him to miss the connecting flight.

It did not help much that he felt already weak after fighting a cold that he caught on the other side of the Atlantic. Eventually, he had to sit out for the first few days of the training camp.

Training week with three different Center Outsides
It was a bad start of the short camp of only a week. Former 4way and 8way team mate Kurt Gaebel was able to fill the slot for a day until coach Shannon Pilcher was available and could take the Center Outside slot on the second day of the camp.

Uli Sehrbrock finally got back in the air on the third day, while a big weather front slowly moved into the area. The first day of the complete new lineup was also the last whole day of training at this camp, as the weather allowed only a few more jumps on the very last day.

Gamma Ray jumped with three different Outside Centers within a week, and the new front piece did not have much time to get to know each other. The married couple in the rear piece (Henning Stumpp, Petra Baerenfaenger) were also new to the exit slots and not in a much better situation. However, coach Shannon Pilcher had the opportunity to fly with the new and youngest team member in the front piece, and he liked what he saw and felt. Center Outside Uli Sehrbrock felt the same, and the new videos are showing new Point Janine Tillenburg in action. The main portion of the 2013 training will now have to take place in Germany.
