Did You Know...

... that Evolution finished the Valentine's Meet with a new team record average?

Evolution in training over Skydive Arizona
posted Feb 17th, 2014 - The highest 10-round average for a team from Canada was posted at the world meet in Menzelinsk 2010. Michel Lemay and his three sons Martin, Vincent and Benoit (Daniel Paquette on camera) finished with a 24.0 average in 5th place. It was the second world meet for the complete family lineup after a 21.9 average in 6th place in Maubeuge 2008.

Evolution competed one more time with the same family lineup at the Mondial Dubai 2012 (23.6 - 4th) before father Michel Lemay gave his slot to Katie Woods, who has trained and competed with the Canadian national 4way team ever since.

It was not an easy path for the three Lemay brothers and Katie Woods in 2013. Oldest brother Martin had serious shoulder problems and eventually took a break for several months after a surgery at the end of the 2013 season. However, Evolution is now in full swing, and the 24.0 record number is history after the 24.4 average last weekend in Eloy.

5th place at the world meet in Menzelinsk 2010
Evolution spends the winter in Arizona, where reigning 4way world champion and former Arizona Airspeed member Niklas Hemlin helps the Canadian team as much as possible. Last weekend, the Valentines Meet 2014 offered the opportunity for a test meet before Evolution will travel to the east coast and face off with the best 4way teams in the world at the Paraclete XP Indoor and Outdoor Championships double header.

There was not much serious direct competition for Evolution in Eloy, as the Arizona Airspeed members served as player coaches for several local and regional AA Class teams. However, Evolution finished with a 24.4 average after ten rounds and has wiped out the previous record number.

There was a fast sequence of random formations in Round 4, which naturally boosted the meet average. It is still fair to compare the Eloy results with the 24.0 average of 2010, which included a sequence of random formations, as well. Evolution scored 51 points for J-M-Q-P-L by then, while last weekend's fast sequence only allowed a 35-pointer.

4th place at the Mondial Dubai 2012
Jocelyn Bernatchez reported from Skydive Arizona that the fun meet attracted many locals to come out and play with the Airspeed members. New Airspeed Tail Thiago Gomes won just a single point ahead of his team mate and piece partner Thomas Hughes, who finished tied with local pickup team Dock Dynasty in 2nd place.

She said that Arizona Relentless and Evolution jumped the competition draw on Saturday: "It was essentially a training day for both teams, with the added feedback from the judges."

The fourth world meet is coming up for the three Lemay brothers together. Martin and Vincent even started with father Michel at the world meet in Germany 2006 (16.8 - 9th). Benoit was too young by then. The world meet rankings since 2006 (9th - 6th - 5th - 4th) indicate a certain direction. Is the 3rd place in reach for Evolution with Katie Woods? The results at the Paraclete XP Outdoor Championship 2014 will show...
