Did You Know...

... that Austria misses a Top 10 opportunity this year?

Final Fire at the Austrian Nationals 2014
posted Aug 18th, 2014 - The Sun Path Products NSL News recently updated the scores page with new results from Austria, where Final Fire defended the national 4-way title successfully last week. Final Fire finished with an 18.8 average, which is the highest score for an Austrian team in history.

The 18.8 average, or any number on this scoring level, will most likely be enough to make the first cut at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014 and might even be competitive for the second cut after Round 9.

Six teams qualify for Round 10, and five of them (Arizona Airspeed - USA, NMP-PCH Hayabusa - Belgium, Volt'R - France, Evolution - Canada, Barkli - Russia) are too far away for all remaining amateur teams in the 4-way Open Class field in Prostejov. There will be a race for the last slot in the finals.

Ravens with the Austrian delegation at the Mondial Dubai 2012
Unfortunately, Final Fire will probably not be a part of this exciting battle, at least not for the 6th place. Team member Thomas Haber informed the Sun Path Products NSL News that his complete lineup cannot make it to the Czech Republic.

He and Kurt Seinitzer will have Elisabeth Haber and Eva Sumasgutner in Austria's 4-way Open Class lineup, who have trained and competed with Limited Edition, the team in 5th place at this year's national championships. Bernhard Trammer is filming the team in Prostejov.

This lineup has not trained together and is aiming at a 14+ average, which means that Austria will probably not make the first cut for the semifinals and Round 9 this year.

FILA at the World Meet 2006 in Germany
Final Fire was a part of the battle for the 10th place and the last slot in the semifinals at the Mondial Dubai 2012 and finished 12th behind Bardagi from Sweden and Voodoo from South Africa. Austria's national 4-way team competed under the name Ravens by then and changed to Final Fire in 2013.

Thomas Haber said that the same 2012 - 2014 lineup completes approx. 50 jumps every year, including the meet rounds. The Final Fire team members came together in 2012 after training and competing with different Austrian teams (Monkey Circus, FILA, Ravens) over the years.

Monkey Circus, with Final Four members Thomas Haber and Horst Scheiber, finished tied in 16th place for Austria in 2008. FILA, with Patrick Kosmus and Kurt Seinitzer, missed the first cut in 2006 in 16th place after five rounds. The world meet this year could have been the first time after many years that Austria placed in the Top 10. Amadeus was the only team who won a 4-way medal for Austria so far - bronze medals in Brazil 1987...
