Did You Know...

... that Florida teams had an indoor/outdoor double header last week?

Florida Skydiving League group at iFLY Orlando
posted Aug 20th, 2014 - 4-way teams and competitors in Florida had their latest indoor/outdoor double header experience once again last week. The Indoor Cloud League group had their first turn on Thursday evening at iFLY Orlando, and the Florida Skydiving League followed up with the August meet on Saturday.

The indoor group had a very successful evening by improving the total score for August from 83 to 105 points. A different AAA and AA Class lineup added 10 points in those two categories, and a new A Class lineup turned the 16-pointer to a 17 in the A Class.

Rookie Class team DeLand Aurai took care of the Rookie AAA Class sequence (16 to 21) after posting the 23-pointer at the previous FSL Tunnel Kicker. Last not least, Mark Messersmith improved his own Rookie A Class score by adding six points to the total, together with new participant Emmanuel Cardinales.

DeLand Aurai followed up a few days later at the outdoor competition with the new lineup, which was identical with the one that was flying at iFLY Orlando on Thursday evening. The three original members (Alix Raymond, Leslie Eggenberger, Cathy Luo) have Rodrigo Espinosa currently in the Tail slot for Adam Money who had to take a break after his recent knee surgery.

DeLand Aurai was once again facing FSL Rookie Class opponent DeLand 3D at the outdoor competition. It was the third time this year that the two Rookie Class teams competed together, and it was the third different lineup for Aurai. Adam Money was still in the Tail slot in May (8.3 - 4.8) when the same 3D lineup as last weekend won the first time.

Both teams tied their meet averages (3.8) for different reasons in July. 3D's original member Mitch Wentworth had the tail slot when 3D lost several points in each round due to camera angles. Aurai had only Leslie Eggenberger and Rodrigo Espinosa available in July. Last weekend's competition had both teams back with their complete current lineups.

Consistent progression: TranZend with coach Sally Hathaway
Four FSL teams competed in the AA Class where TranZend and SDC FurtheranZe XP keep battling for the top spot at Skydive City. FurtheranZe had the upper hand at the first direct confrontation (9.0 - 7.2) in June, and TranZend won the July meet (7.8 - 7.2) with an improved average.

Both teams completed ten rounds last weekend to go through the whole dive pool before traveling to Skydive Chicago and the USPA Nationals in September, and TranZend finished once again with a new team record average (5.8 - 7.2 - 7.8 - 9.0) this year.

The videographers of both teams struggled with the expected high standards of judging at the national championships, and the number of point deductions held the Z-teams from posting higher numbers. The 10+ average seems to be very much in reach for TranZend and is the goal for FurtheranZe, as well. Both teams have another month to clean up and get all scoring points posted on the leaderboard.
