NSL News Coverage of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2024

Did You Know...

... that Sian Stokes posted the highest indoor average of a female UK competitor since 2010 at the Bodyflight Revenge?

AAA Class awards at the Bodyflight Revenge
posted Oct 5th, 2014 - The British 4-way teams had another opportunity last Friday to add some competition scores to their 2014 collection, as Bodyflight Beford, host of the annual World Challenge, added a second indoor event to the meet schedule, the Bodyflight Revenge.

38 British teams came to Bedford, and three visiting teams from Portugal and Denmark joined the competition.

It was the 5th time this year that both national 4-way teams, Vision 99 (4-way Open Class) and Kaizen (4-way Women), challenged each other across the leaderboard, and Vision 99 had the upper hand for the 3rd consecutive time. Kaizen won this duel at the World Challenge 2014 (21.5 - 19.5) and then again at the Hibaldstow Cup 2014 (16.5 - 16.0) before Vision 99 took over at the other next three meets (FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2014 - UK Nationals 2014 - Bodyflight Revenge).

Kaizen on the other hand was facing the strongest British opponent in 4-way Women, Bodyflight Isis, for the third time this year and once again fended off the domestic challenger. Kaizen won at the World Challenge (21.5 - 19.8) and was 11 points ahead (18.4 - 17.3) at the UK Nationals. Last Friday's competition between both teams (21.3 - 21.2) was the closest call this year.

Neither of the two British national 4-way teams of 2014 were able to keep up with the new national champion, Voodoo. The three members of the former South African national 4-way team (Vana Parker, Dennis Parker, David Sumter) defended their UK top position successfully with coach Gary Smith in the lineup this time.

Voodoo had won the national 4-way championship title this year with Liz Matthews in the lineup (19.5) and then competed with Gary Smith at the USPA Nationals 2014. The 23.6 average in Bedford is the team's new indoor highscore a few weeks after the 18.8 outdoor average at Skydive Chicago.

Full Stop XL with Sian Stokes in action
Last but not least, none of the mentioned UK teams were able to keep up with the AAA Class winner of the Bodyflight Revenge, Full Stop XL.

XL members Steve Hamilton and John McIver had Sian Stokes and Ian "Milko" Hodgkinson in their lineup, and the 25.3 average was out of reach for the other British top teams. Only world champion NMP-PCH Hayabusa, the French national 4-way team Volt'R, XL with the complete 2014 lineup and Gavroches had posted higher indoor averages at the World Challenge this year.

Ian "Milko" Hodgkinson was the Satori point when the former British national team was still in training and competition. Sian Stokes competed with Skydiva at the World Challenge 2014 and then placed 4th with 4mula at the UK Nationals this year. She trained and competed with Bodyflight Langar at the Mondial Dubai 2012 and was also a Bodyflight Isis member in 2013. Her 25.3 average with Full Stop XL is now the highest indoor score of a female UK competitor since 2010 (Jules Foxwell with Satori), not counting Katie Woods' 28.0 average with Evolution last year.
