Advanced NWSL group in July

posted Jan 2nd, 2013 - The December showdown between the Florida Skydiving League at iFLY Orlando and the Northwest Skydiving League at iFLY Seattle is over, and both groups provided the last and final videos of the December sequences in time before the turn of the year. The FSL group with head coach Ari Perelman won the last contest of the 2012 season with the highest total score (128) of the year.

The December event was also the tie breaker between both groups. The Northwest Skydiving League, with NWSL Director Deb Correia organizing the monthly efforts, had won the first contest in July. Florida improved the group's performance significantly in August and October and won both months. Deb and Dave Correia then came back with their group to win the November event where Florida missed the deadline for updating videos and scores.

The December scores were the final ones of the first year, and Florida won the 2012 season 3 - 2.

The videos feature both AA Class teams with their December sequences. Florida has to fit Block 21 into the 12-foot flying chamber while the NWSL flyers have a 14-foot chamber available. Both groups have agreed to a dive pool with random formations and blocks that fit into both chambers. They can also select the groups that have the capability to accommodate the selected sequences.

The indoor contest is not only open for the seasoned 4way competitors. In fact, both groups have several flyers who have not attended any outdoor competitions and joined the 4way teams first only for the indoor events. Yvonne Saa, who is performing the AA Class sequence for the Florida Skydiving League, is not even a skydiver and exclusively an indoor competitor so far.

The indoor event series with the NWSL group eventually inspired several FSL flyers to form teams for the outdoor meets, as well. The project has been very successful and will continue in 2013.

The indoor competition classes are also taylored for the grassroot level. Two additional categories (Rookie A - Rookie AA) make it even easier for new flyers to learn how to build 4way formations. Volunteer player coaches help on a regular basis to make the learning experience as easy as possible for the new flyers, while iFLY Orlando supports the FSL project with free tunnel time.

The FSL events also include 1-on-1 training for new indoor flyers who are not ready for the 4way meets yet. The coaches try to prepare the potential competitors for their 4way future as quickly as possible, and often they join the FSL/NWSL contest soon after as a player in the Rookie A Class.

There are still a few months before the new outdoor competition season will begin in the USA. The first year of the FSL/NWSL project at their respective iFLY competition sites was successful, and both groups are now open to welcome new groups into the "Virtual Indoor League" with its monthly events.
