Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed has an exciting layover in Dubai?

Current results of the Dubai polls in 4way Open
posted Nov 24th, 2012 - The current results of the polls for the Formation Skydiving competition events at the Mondial 2012 indicate no sweep for any nation this time. The US delegation would come the closest with three gold medals, Arizona Airspeed in 4way Open, Golden Knights in 4way Women and 8way. France would be left with only one gold medal in VFS 4way.

Airspeed is only slightly ahead of NMP-PCH Hayabusa in the polls. The audience doesn't seem to see a chance for France to win gold medals in 4way and 8way with the same lineup, as the 8way team is also far behind the Golden Knights. The three French teams in the traditional Formation Skydiving events have become underdogs according to the current predictions of the NSL News audience.

Arizona Airspeed at the USPA Nationals 2012
Arizona Airspeed recently put an exclamation mark behind the team's goal and the expectations for the World Meet in Dubai.

The old and new USPA 4way champion participated in the online indoor competition that the International Bodyflight Association (IBA) organized in the runup to iFLY Singapore's Indoor Skydiving World Championships. The online competition took place shortly after the USPA Nationals at several different iFLY windtunnels in the world.

The format is similar to the NSL Virtual Indoor Competition between iFLY Orlando and iFLY Seattle, only on a much bigger scale in many ways.

iFLY Singapore - $38,000 FS jackpot
The event included five different categories, and each winner received free airfare to the World Championships at iFLY Singapore. This event is scheduled right after the Mondial 2012, which makes it a pretty short travel distance from one major event to the next one. A jackpot with a total of $38,000 is written out for the first three places ($18,000 - $12,000 - $8,000), plus free tunnel time for "amateur teams".

Arizona Airspeed now has a free trip to Singapore, which turns the Mondial 2012 almost into an exciting layover. Airspeed will take home some serious cash after the indoor competition, and the dollar amount depends only on whether Aerodyne Aerokart or NMP-PCH Hayabusa will also make the trip to Singapore or not.

SDC Standard XP is getting free tickets to Singapore, as well, after winning the VFS 4way competition, and the US national team is also competing in Dubai. The VFS 4way teams have a total of $33,000 in the jackpot.

65-pointer at the World Challenge 2011: NMP-PCH Hayabusa in Bedford
The Airspeed scores at the recent virtual indoor competition don't really tell that much about the results to be expected in Dubai. The 35.0 average sounds amazing and stands for the highest indoor average ever after Hayabusa's previous 32.9 record average at the ISR Grand Prix 2010 in Roosendaal. However, the dive pool for the IBA competition was even more limited than the one in Roosendaal, as both events had to accommodate smaller flying chambers. Block 14 was even drawn twice.

The IBA draw on November 5th also included a Super Sequence with only random formations. Airspeed scored a 47-pointer, the same score as in Round 2 with Block 3 in the sequence. Airspeed also added another 46-pointer in Round 6.

At least NMP-PCH Hayabusa, one of the two major Airspeed opponents in Dubai, were probably not overly impressed. The last Super Sequence that the TOP 3 teams in the world performed together was drawn at the World Challenge 2011. Hayabusa won the round (H,M,Q,K,A) with a 65-pointer, followed by Airspeed with a 60-pointer, while Aerodyne Aerokart was far behind with a 52-pointer. Indoor scores - outdoor scores, no matter what, Airspeed is still the favorite in the polls.
