Did You Know...

... that Dallas 350 and Spaceland Lite had their first 2015 battle on the same leaderboard?

Spaceland Lite at the USPA Nationals 2009
posted Mar 23rd, 2015 - Spaceland Lite's team history began in 2009 when the first lineup appeared for the first time on a leaderboard of the Texas Skydiving League. Spaceland Lite won the Advanced Class competition two years later at the USPA Nationals 2011 and was going into the second AAA/Open Class year when Dallas 350 was formed in 2013.

Both teams have been competing with each other directly only once at a meet in Texas ever since, while they were separated at the USPA Nationals. Spaceland Lite had to move up into the AAA/Open Class in 2012, while Dallas 350 was still eligible for USPA's Advanced Class medals.

This changed last year when Dallas 350 copied Spaceland Lite's 2011 success and won the Advanced Class competition with a 15.1 average. Both teams have finally arrived in the Open Class and will end up on the same USPA leaderboard this year.

The look across the Open and Advanced Class leaderboards at the previous two national championships shows very different results, and both teams have their special stories.

Dallas 350 was still in contention for the Advanced Class gold medals after Round 7 at the USPA Nationals 2013, where Solly Williams filled an open slot for a missing team member. Ron Hill, Lucas King and Scott Levy were the three original members, with Alan Levy on camera. Two bad rounds then dropped the Texas team out of the medal positions, while Dallas En Fuego, by then with current Dallas 350 member Scott Latinis, won the silver medals.

However, Dallas 350 came back a year later even stronger, now with new team member Scott Latinis, and won the Advanced Class gold medals with a 15.1 average.

Spaceland Lite's 2015 lineup
It went the other way around for Spaceland Lite. The team trained and competed under extenuating circumstances in 2014. One team member was treated for cancer and could not train because of chemo therapy and surgeries.

Spaceland Lite finally had the full lineup in the air for the first time in months on the weekend before the USPA Nationals. The team members were just happy to be back together in time for the national championships. Spaceland Lite eventually received USPA's Ted Strong Award for Extraordinary Sportsmanship as a result of how the team stuck together and still competed at the USPA Nationals with the recovering team mate.

The 2014 season was over, and Spaceland Lite made new plans for 2015 with a new lineup. Tail Richard Rothery had decided to step back, and David Grabowski, former member of Fallout, Fugitives and Misfits, joined the team.

Dallas 350's 2015 lineup
The leaderboard of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2015 had both teams right next to each other for the first time, and it could not have been much closer. Spaceland Lite and Dallas 350 both posted indoor team record averages after a 1-point battle, which promises more exciting competition in Texas and at the USPA Nationals this year.

Dallas 350 has a new lineup, as well. The Sun Path Products NSL News reported on 30 December 2014 that former Mass Defiance member and national judge Jim Rees has joined the team, while Lucas King, Scott Levy and Scott Latinis came back for the 2015 season.

Both teams are now in the same situation, and the Texas race for the top spot in the AAA/Open Class had a perfect start into the 2015 season.
