Did You Know...

... that eight teams competed in Florida last weekend?

Teiwaz AAA Class lineup last weekend
posted May 18th, 2015 - Eight teams attended the May meet of the Florida Skydiving League last weekend, which was hosted by Skydive City and Skydive DeLand. Three teams missed the meet (DeLand Momentum, DeLand Flashpoint, DeLand 3D), and the first 2-digit participation in years has to wait for the next opportunity in June.

Teiwaz did not have any direct AAA Class competition in the absence of DeLand Momentum, and the DeLand Bees were the only Rookie Class team. However, the Bees still posted the team's highest meet average in team history and beat their own previous highscore for a round (6) three times. The first 2-digit score for a single round is now in reach.

DeLand 3D and Zeus have both moved up into the A Class this year, and Zeus' new lineup tied the highscore for Round 3 in their efforts to get familiar with the new category. Bald + Beautiful from Skydive Palatka competed with guest member Leslie Eggenberger in the Outside Center slot and impressed with the 17-pointer in Round 6.

New record average and highscore for single round: DeLand Bees
Three teams from Skydive City gave each other a battle in the AA Class, where DeLand Flashpoint missed the first 2015 showdown with the teams from Skydive City. Purple HaZe has stepped back up into the AA Class and was competitive with a new team record average in this category. Only two point deductions due to the video angle kept Purple HaZe from winning Round 3 outright.

Bob Byrne reported from Skydve City that ZHills TranZend competed at their first meet after a late start this year. Inside Center Rebecca Kristof had off-season knee surgery and has been recuperating: "They looked a little rusty on the hill, but had a solid meet."

Purple HaZe had support by coach Sally Hathaway who stepped in for Keith Hanley in the Point slot for this meet. Bob Byrne said that their improved scores are reflecting her previous coaching, in combination with the benefit of having a player-coach in the lineup: "The scores would have been even higher, except that their videographer had two miss-timed exits, which cost them six points."

Getting ready for action: Bald + Beautiful
Former Zunday tail Jon Agar filled in as Outside Center for SCZ FurtheranZe XP in the first four rounds. Coach Bob Byrne stepped in when Scott Jones had to leave early. He took the Outside Center slot, and Jon Agar moved to Tail, while Michael Hare became the new Inside Center, a slot that he trained with CSC Rhemix at Paraclete earlier this year.

Bob Byrne said that SCZ FurtheranZe XP will have a light training season this year and will not attend the USPA Nationals 2015, due to the schedules of some of the team members.

Zeus attended their first outdoor meet in the A Class with the team's new lineup. The 7-pointer in Round 3 was a new team record, including the previous Rookie Class scores, and it tied Bald+Beautiful's A Class highscore for the round. Bob Byrne said that it was a result of launching new exits for the first time:

"Unfortunately, the experiment of trying new exits didn't go as well in Rounds 4 - 6 where exit mishaps led to low scores."

Rounding out the meet at Skydive City was a pick-up team of local jumpers guided by Keith Walters. Holden's Daddies were unable to complete the meet due to bad weather on Sunday.
