posted Dec 8th, 2018 - The NSL News reported the 8-way upset at the Weembinamic 2018 with the story on December 3rd. The Qatar Falcons finished in 1st place on the traditional leaderboard after all ten rounds, while the Weembi Girls took their next Weembinamic 8-way title after winning the two rounds of the finals (9 and 10) over the Qatar Tigers.

The meet videos of both teams are now featuring most of the competition rounds, and NSL-TV also added the available videos of the team in 3rd place, Veloce QRF's signature lineup. Martial Ferre and his international team defeated Veloce Vair8Maxx in the finals (40 - 36) and finished accordingly in 3rd place on the traditional leaderboard.

Weembi Girls, Qatar Falcons and Veloce QRF all scored below their previous indoor averages, which indicates that the competition draw was on the slower side this time. All three teams had met each other at the French Indoor Nationals last time, where they had finished in exactly the same order behind Weembi Elder 8.

Weembi Girls and Veloce QRF then only came back for the next 8-way indoor competition at the same place, while the Qatar Tigers attended two outdoor meets before returning to Weembi Lille, including the trip to Australia where they won the bronze medals at the FAI World Meet.

Qatar Falcons - Weembi Girls - Veloce QRF at the Weembinamic 2018

The Weembi Girls had a slightly different lineup compared to the one at the French Indoor Nationals and last year's at the Weembinamic. Gaelle Giesen was focusing on her 4-way competition, where she finished in 3rd place with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Aerodyne Weembi's alternate in Australia had the opportunity to be in the active lineup with 4-way Women world champions and 4-way Open Class indoor world cup winners Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis this time. Amnesya's Chiara Brunetti completed this lineup. Gaelle Giesen also competed with Fly4Fun in 4-way and skipped the 8-way competition.

B-team member Elise Poindron took Gaelle Giesen's 8-way slot and finished right behind Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in 4th place on the 4-way AAA Class leaderboard.

The two Scandinavians in the Veloce QRF roster, Kjetil Nordin and Seth Erickson, were back in the Weembinamic lineup after skipping the French Indoor Nationals 2018, where Martial Ferre's brother Marin and Marco Arrigo had filled the open slots. Weembi Girls and Veloce QRF are both exclusively indoor teams, even though most of the team members are also competing at outdoor events.

The Qatar Tigers are on 8-way world class level in indoor and outdoor competition both, as they were showing with the bronze medals in Australia. The 3rd place became available when France decided not to send an 8-way team to the world meet. Coach Gary Smith had the opportunity to guide the team to the first FAI world meet medals in Qatar's Formation Skydiving history.

However, he was not working with Qatar's 8-way team any longer when the Falcons came back again to the country of former 8-way glory. Pickup team Weembi Elder 8, loaded with former French 8-way world champions, had still outscored the Qatar Falcons and won the French Indoor Nationals this year in March. This time, the Falcons finished on the top of the traditional 8-way leaderboard at Weembi after taking the French bronze medal slot of 2016 in Australia.

New 8-way coach at the Weembinamic was Jeremie Rollett, who will continue with the new job. He was coaching the Qatar Tigers 4-way team so far and has now switched jobs with Gary Smith, former 4-way world champion with DeLand Majik in 2004 and DeLand Fire in 2006. Jeremie Rollett won FAI 8-way gold in 2006 and 2008 and then 4-way gold in 2010. Both Qatar teams have just started with an outdoor training camp at Skydive City in Florida, and the NSL News will follow up with more details soon.
