posted Apr 29th, 2019 - Teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women are using the same competition draw at FAI/IPC events, while their scoring numbers are posted on two different leaderboards. The same numbers and letters of the blocks and random formations are also used for the 8-way and VFS sequences, where the maneuvers are obviously different though. Only the 4-way Junior event has a separate draw using the AA Class dive pool and shorter sequences.

The NSL News offers once again a closer look at the combined leaderboard (4-way Open - 4-way Women) of the FAI Indoor World Meet to compare the scores and placings directly. There is also a third undefined category of lineups (yellow) with team members of different genders.

The FAI/IPC Open Class category allows any gender combination, while only the 4-way Women event limits the lineups to only female 4-way competitors. However, any 4-way Women teams could also register for the 4-way Open Class instead, together with all other teams and possible gender combinations.

Weembi High Rollers (2nd), HF Flying Circus (15th), Pro Team (16th), Out of the Blue (21st) have 2-2 combinations with two female and two male competitors. FlySpot Sky4Four from Poland have Anna Baranska as the only female team member in the lineup. There was no team at Weembi Lille with only one male competitor.

The 4-way Junior competition has only an Open Class field, and the three medal winning teams had three different gender combinations. The HF Cubs won with an all-female lineup, followed by the French Aerokart Ak'demie lineup with four male 4-way juniors. The Russian 4-way Junior team took the bronze medals with a 2-2 mixed-gender lineup, the same combination as the British Skydive Recruitz in 4th place.

The 4-way Women teams had once again a serious impact on the combined AAA Class leaderboard. HF Flying Circus, with their own two female 4-way competitors Dagmar Bezdeková and Martina Vavackova, worked hard to finish in the last Top 10 spot on the Open Class leaderboard, and they left behind by one single point the Pro Team from Finland, who train and compete with the same gender combination.

However, both teams ended up in 15th and 16th place on the combined leaderboard, where five 4-way Women teams finished with higher meet averages. Two of them (Nephtys Weembi, NFTO) made the Top 10 with their new team record averages and left behind very well trained Open Class teams, such as Echochamber and ACM Weembi.

The female top performers of the entire indoor world meet were once again Weembi High Rollers members Sophie Pecout and Christine Malnis, who won the FAI silver medals in the 4-way Open Class competition. They placed far ahead of a group of four strong teams with all-male lineups, including Arizona Airspeed.

The 4-way Women teams also finished in better positions at the bottom of the leaderboard. The all-male Bahrain 4-way team was in last place at the previous indoor world meet in Montreal 2017, with three 4-way Women teams directly ahead of them. This time, three all-male 4-way Open Class teams took the last three places, behind three 4-way Women teams.

It required almost a 20+ average at Weembi Lille to stay away from the very bottom of the combined leaderboard, and the lowest average in 4-way Women was 20.9 by the VossVind Girls. Skydive University Slovakia had posted 20+ averages before traveling to France and ended up on the bottom with a lower average, due to the high standards in Lille.

H4O from Ireland finished with a significantly improved 19.6 team record average and barely avoided the last place. Any 20+ average would have been far above the bottom of the leaderboard two years ago in Montreal.

23 teams were on the combined AAA Class leaderboard in October 2017. Four more teams increased the 4-way Open/4-way Women total number of teams to 27 at Weembi Lille. NMP PCH HayaBusa's winning average went from 32.7 in Montreal to 35.1 this month in Lille.
