... that Pajama Pumas win AAA Class weekend with new member Jodie-Leigh Foster?

Pajama Pumas' 2018 lineup
posted Jun 11th, 2019 - The scores of the British 4-way teams have been added to last weekend's leaderboard. The AAA Class winner is Pajama Pumas, who placed themselves in front of the three German teams.

The NSL News had introduced British 4-way team Pajama Pumas with the update on 19 September 2017. It was at the end of the team's AA Class season that they finished with a 2nd place at the UK Nationals. Pajama Pumas had started with a 0.2 average in the Rookie Class of 2016 and wrapped up the first team year with a 10.9 average and the 1st place in the A Class at the ESL Championship 2016.

They moved up into the AA Class in 2017 and placed 2nd at the national championships with an 11.4 average, after a 1-point battle over eight rounds with Salty Jacks. The impressive progression continued in the AAA Class last year, and a 14.1 outdoor average at the UK Nationals was in the team records, after Wind Games, World Challenge and three meets of the United Kingdom Skydiving League (UKSL).

With Paul Colman stepping down at the end of the 2018 season to take a break from skydiving, there was space for a new team Pajama Puma, Jodie-Leigh Foster. The scores of the British 4-way teams have been added to last weekend's leaderboard. While Pajama Pumas were progressing, Jodie-Leigh Foster earned her first 4-way wings at Skydive Langar at the beginning of the 2017 season with team 3fall. Her progression was similar to Pajama Pumas, as she posted an 11.7 average in the A Class a year later at the UK Nationals 2018 and won the gold medals with Cloud Busters.

Pajama Puma Matt Cumming was coaching Cloud Busters in 2018, and Jodie-Leigh Foster's A Class team (Scott Brettle, Mike Swann, Jamie Ball) won every UKSL meet and the UK Nationals in this category.

Cloud Busters finished off the 2018 season at the Revenge in Bedford, where they won the AA Class competition with a 16.8 average.

Jodie-Leigh Foster and Michael Swann had coach Matt Cumming and another Pajama Puma, Paul Willcock, in their lineup at the Revenge.

Both Pajama Pumas were impressed how Jodie-Leigh Foster copied their own progression at the beginning of their 4-way career. She had gone from 3.4 in the Rookie Class of 2017 to the 16.8 indoor average a year later in the AA Class.

Jodie-Leigh Foster made new plans for the 2019 season and agreed to join a AAA Class team skipping the AA Class after only one event in this category, the Revenge in October 2018.

However, Jodie-Leigh Foster's original team plans for the 2019 season did not work out, and the new opportunity with the Pujama Pumas came up when Paul Colman decided to step back.
Pajama Pumas at the World Challenge 2019
Pajama Pumas re-arranged their previous slots completely for the new lineup: Matt Cumming from inside center to outside center, Paul Willcock from point to tail, Stefan "Potter" Cocksedge from tail to inside Center. Jodie-Leigh Foster continued in her point slot, while she had to learn the AA and AAA Class dive pool in A- and B-slots.

Jodie-Leigh Foster remembers that she was under pressure: "I was very nervous about whether I'd be able to learn all the AA and AAA blocks in point, as well as all of the randoms, A, AA and AAA blocks in outside center – especially when the other team members have already competed in AAA, and each have over three times as many jumps as me. It was hard work but also lots of fun – a really good challenge!"

The new team member seems to fit in very well, and the new lineup has already lived up to the challenge. Pajama Pumas posted two new team record averages in 2019 so far, first with the 19.7 at the World Challenge, followed by a 19.8 average at the Weembi Cup.

Pajama Pumas have even received an invitation by the British Parachute Association (BPA) to compete for the British delegation at the FAI World Cup in Eloy this October. They will join NFTO, Chimera and Eros as the 4th team in the 4-way Open Class.

Matt Cumming said that his team gladly accepted the invitation: "We're very excited to be going to the World Cup! We'd only planned to fly in the tunnel this year, so hadn't thought that swapping slots would be much of an issue. Now that we have our World Cup invite, we've realized we need to get jumping. Our first training weekends were an interesting learning experience – who'd have thought everyone swapping slots would make the exits so much harder?!"

The first outdoor competition, with ACM member Marc Fletcher filling the inside center slot for Stefan Potter, was a great start into the 2019 season, as well, despite the exit troubles. Pajama Pumas finished on top of the international AAA Class leaderboard.

Jodie-Leigh Foster has now moved from her first 4-way team in 2017 to training for the FAI World Cup at Skydive Arizona in 2019. She and Pajama Pumas are a good match in the fast lane of 4-way progression. New coach, NFTO member Sian Stokes, fits just as well to the team speed and the progression. She will be able to be with the team at the world cup, where her own team wants to win in 4-way Women...
