Did You Know...

... that the Czech AAA and AA leaderboards had interesting mixtures of 4-way juniors and seniors this month?

FAI bronze medals for HF Chicks in Montreal 2017
posted Dec 21st, 2019 - The December meet of the World Tunnel League at the Hurricane Factory included the comeback of HF Chicks member Hanka Uriková, who used to train and compete with the Czech national team in 4-way Women.

In fact, the HF Chicks were the first Czech team that won a set of FAI Formation Skydiving medals for their country. Klára Eliášová, Jitka Mancikova, Eva Turkova and Hanka Uriková placed 3rd at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017 in Montreal.

The lineup of the HF Chicks has been quite flexible ever since, and original member Eva Turkova eventually joined forces with some of the HF Cubs who had grown out of the 4-way Junior competition, as the NSL News reported on February 19th. The latest HF Chicks lineup at the second Czech indoor meet of the 2019/2020 winter season was even more colorful.

Eva Turkova and Hanka Uriková, FAI indoor bronze medal winners of 2017, had reigning 4-way Junior world champion and HF Cubs member Tereza Zívalová in the December lineup, who also competed with her own team at the same event. The HF Cubs needed her too, as the team was short of available members. Former Bad Boys outside center Jan Lukavec had to help out to complete the HF Cubs lineup, and they could not keep up with HF Flying Circus this time.

The HF Chicks still needed a 4th team member, next to Eva Turkova and Hanka Uriková, and HF Cubs member Tereza Zívalová with double duties. Kaja Svejdová has her own team, as well, and she is from an even younger Czech 4-way generation. She trains and competes with the 4-way Junior team HF Dragonflies and took on the AAA Class draw for the first time.

Her own all-female junior team also competed at the same event, and Kaja Svejdová switched back and forth between AAA and AA sequences. The HF Dragonflies could not challenge the HF Flying Rebels this time who had just won the AA Class competition at the ISR Grand Prix in Roosendaal.

However, both 4-way junior teams took the first two places at the December meet, even though 4-way senior team Hight Five finished with a new team record average at their second competition in the AA Class.

AAA and AA leaderboards both featured an interesting mixture of Czech 4-way seniors and juniors, either in the same lineups or in opposing teams. The A Class leaderboard, however, was exclusively a 4-way junior affair.

AA Class winner in Roosendaal: HF Flying Rebels
All three teams (HF Chameleons, HF Invisible, Rusalky) represent the youngest and newest generation of Czech 4-way competitors, and the HF Chameleons finished in 1st place and with a new team record average at the December meet.

The lineups are still flexible, and Jan Klapka is always trying to put together the lineups with a variety of different considerations. He has also called the HF Chameleons back into the A Class, after an excursion into the AA Class competition with a different lineup at the previous indoor winter season.

There were no other 4-way junior teams ready to move up into the A Class in 2018/2019, and the HF Chameleons would have been by themselves and 4-way senior team Hight Five. Jan Klapka had enough new 4-way juniors available for two new teams and the 2019/2020 season (HF Invisible and Rusalky), and HF Chameleons moved back into the A Class competition with a new lineup.

Invisible and Rusalky will now try to challenge the Chameleons at the monthly meets, and all three junior teams can still work together to score for the Indoor Cloud League team of the Hurricane Factory...
