Did You Know...

... that the Synchronicity story continued until 2006?

posted Feb 23rd, 2021 - The most recent NSL Live Talk conversation, anchored by Joey Jones and posted on February 17th, covered the beginnings of the 4-way Women category at FAI/ISC events. The first separate 4-way Women leaderboard at a World Championship of Formation Skydiving was added in Spain 2001.

The guests at the NSL Live Talk, Eliana Rodriguez and Lena Jones, both competed at the first test events and at the first world meet. Eliana Rodriguez won the first FAI gold medals with Synchronicity, Lena Jones was the alternate for the bronze medal winner from Sweden, 4 Pleasure.

NSL Live Talk anchor Joey Jones was coaching the new world champions and continued for a few years to work with the team. Synchronicity continued for several years and won a second set of 4-way Women gold medals in 2004, after bronze in 2003.

The lineup changed when Eliana Rodriguez moved to Arizona and joined Airspeed to win her next set of world meet gold medals, first in 8-way (2004), then in 4-way (2008). Jaimie Johnson took her slot in 2002 and continued with the team until the Synchronicity project came to its end in 2006.

New Synchronicity lineup in 2002
Sally Hathaway became the only original Synchronicity member who was still in the lineup in 2006. She is also the only U.S. competitor with two 4-way Women gold medals in her collection (2001 - 2004). She won the second gold medal when her original team mate Eliana Rodriguez won 8-way gold with Arizona Airspeed in 2004.

In fact, Sally Hathaway did not miss any of the 14 competitions that Synchronicity attended between 2000 and 2006. She and Eliana Rodriguez both are still active in the sport. Eliana Rodriguez competed with Jerry and the Jets at the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships in November last year and won a 4-way bronze medal with Airspeed Odyssey at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019.

Sally Hathaway has regularly joined the Indoor Cloud League events at iFLY Tampa as a player-coach before the corona break, and she competed for ZEUS at the Shamrock Showdown 2018.

The next step after the gold medals in 4-way Women in 2001 was the USPA Nationals in October the same year. Original member Lilac Hayes and videographer Tony Hathaway were not available, and Pete Allum filled the open slot for the meet. Former Ranch 2nd Generation videographer Kamuran "Sonic" Bayrasli was available for the camera slot and still had the footage of the ten competition rounds.

New Synchronicity lineup in 2003
The Synchronicity lineup changed again in 2003, after Lilac Hayes and Sally Stewart left the team. Sally Hathaway and Jaimie Johnson invited Jaquelen O'Brien and Kim Glover to join the team, which was like an invitation to compete at the next world meet. There was no 4-way Women opposition for Synchronicity in the United States at that time.

It was also perfect timing for the new team members, as FAI/IPC changed the rotation between world meets and world cups in 2003/2004. The new Synchronicity lineup could compete at the world meet in Gap 2003 and a year later in Rijeka 2004.

Sally Hathaway, Jaimie Johnson, Jaquelen O'Brien and Kim Glover, still with Tony Hathaway on camera, started with bronze medals in 2003 and turned them into gold a year later. The 16.9 average in Rijeka turned out to be the highest scoring level in the Synchronicity career.

Jaquelen O'Brien did not continue after winning bronze and gold in these two years, and the new French 4-way Women lineup had caught up with Synchronicity at the FAI World Cup 2005. There was also a U.S. team that tried to challenge Synchronicity, now with Becky Brocato in the lineup, for the first time. The NSL News update on 14 February 2006 provided the details of the new situation.
