posted Oct 28th, 2021 - The 8-way competition of the USPA Nationals 2021 was completed early on Thursday without any delays, and the teams eventually placed in the expected order. The new 8-way world champions of Airspeed XP8 did not need the scoring and performance level of the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, where they were challenged to the extreme by the French 8-way team.

The 20.0 average after the ten rounds in Eloy was more than enough to defend the U.S. title successfully. The Golden Knights won one round and tied another one to finish 18 points behind ASXP8, and the Qatar Falcons could not follow up on the surprising start of the competition. However, they fended off the charging Expendables who were introduced by the NSL News yesterday.

The Airspeed XP8 delegation had an extremely successful showing at this year's national championships. The eight active 8-way members also won the USPA titles in 4-way Open (Arizona Airspeed) and 4-way Women (XPG4). They needed only three more team mates (Joey Marshall, Morgan Womble, Brenn Richards) to complete the triple-gold sweep.

The medal collection is not over yet for Airspeed XP8 after the 4-way and 8-way events. They are used to add 16-way and 10-way titles to their USPA collections, and this year's 16-way lineup is once again a historic combination of world champions.

GKXP versus Arizona Airspeed in 16-way at the USPA Nationals 2017
AZXPGK 16-way team in training
There will not be much competition for Airspeed's 16-way team, which is competing under a new name. Golden Knights and Paraclete XP used to have their own 16-way teams at the USPA Nationals and tried to challenge the Airspeed powerhouse as much as possible.

AZXPGK features a combination of all three former 16-way teams this week. Ten of the same 11 team members of Airspeed XP8, Arizona Airspeed and XPG4 have added Jennifer Davidson, Andrew Starr, Jesse Stahler, David Flynn, Dan BC, Josh Hall and Steve Lefkowitz to their 16-way lineup. XPG4 videographer Andres Mesa is filming the 16-way rounds.

The complete Golden Knights Gold lineup changed the team name to AZXPGK. Steve Lefkowitz did not have enough critical mass to integrate his SDC Rhythm XP name into the 16-way team name. Dan BC and Josh Hall were in both winning 16-way teams in 2018 and 2019 and has several additional 16-way gold medals in their collections. There is no other 16-way team that could possibly offer any resistance as in earlier years, and AZXPGK won the first round by five points.
