Did You Know...

... that three teams lost their Top 10 positions on the combined leaderboard?

Belgian Indoor Nationals 2022 in March
posted Apr 21st, 2022 - The latest NSL Power Rankings before the start of the 4-way Open competition at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 had ISR FireFlash tied with NMP PCH HayaBusa in 3rd place. The placing was based on the results at the Belgian Indoor Nationals, which were completed just two weeks before the indoor world cup.

ISR FireFlash had finished only three points behind the still reigning indoor and outdoor world champions, which was close enough to expect another Belgian duel in Charleroi.

It did not happen, as ISR FireFlash staid five points below their previous meet average (28.1 - 27.6) while NMP PCH HayaBusa continued to lift their performance level (28.4 - 30.9) once again significantly, within the same two weeks.

It was already impressive enough that the amateur team was able to challenge the military professionals as they did at the national indoor championships. The new HayaBusa lineup has been adjusting to the latest personnel change very successfully and will most likely continue to create more distance between themselves and any other Belgian and international teams until they are back to the previous performance level where Arizona Airspeed is alone at this point in time.

HF Cubs - ISR FireFlash - Nephtys at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022

ISR FireFlash was the strongest 4-way Open Class team in 4th place behind the medal positions and finished 13 points ahead of Skydive Midwest NEXT in 5th place. They were in 3rd place on the European leaderboard, where Arizona Airspeed is not eligible for FAI medals. However, they had to make room for HF Flying Circus on the podium, as only one team per nation can win European medals, which was NMP PCH HayaBusa for Belgium.

ISR FireFlash also lost the 4th place on the combined AAA Class leaderboard, which includes all teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women. ISR FireFlash were in a close battle with the two strongest 4-way Women teams, HF Cubs and Nephtys throughout the whole ten rounds.

The combined leaderboard is unofficial and only visible at SKYLEAGUE.COM. There are no award ceremonies or medals, while the special leaderboard offers interesting information and insights. However, the combined leaderboard has been traditionally a part of NSL News coverage and event aftermath, as 4-way Open and 4-way Women events apply the identical competition draw. HF Cubs turned out as the strongest team behind the medal positions in 4-way Open, and Nephtys were tied with ISR FireFlash going into Round 10, which served as the tie-breaker for the 5th place on the combined leaderboard.

The two strong 4-way Women teams made it much more difficult for 4-way Open teams to make the Top 10 on the combined leaderboard. Three teams (SDC Rhythm XP, Out Of The Blue, Echochamber Oceanside) fell out of the Top 10 positions that they had after the ten rounds in 4-way Open.

Papea Masculino, the Spanish CISM team, saved their Top 10 spot with a new team record average. They had finished with 23.7 at the Spanish Indoor Nationals in February and needed their 25.3 to hold off the other Top 10 contenders on the combined leaderboard.

In fact, Papea were only four points behind Meraki after Round 10 and within striking distance of HF Flying Circus and Skydive Midwest NEXT, as well.

The male lineup of the Spanish military also represents the country at outdoor events and finished in 5th place at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 last August. Then they won the 6th Dubai International Parachuting Championship in December. They will meet NMP PCH HayaBusa soon again at the next CISM World Championship event.
