Did You Know...

... that Violeta Demeterova has joined the new HF Flying Rebels lineup?

Czech delegation at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022

posted May 25th, 2022 - The last competition of the Czech Tunnel League League's 2021/2022 winter season brought the four teams back into 4-way action who had competed for the Czech Republic at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 in April.

The NSL News has covered the success of the Czech delegation at Airspace Charleroi comprehensively. The four teams brought back two sets of gold medals, with HF Cubs in 4-way Women and HF Flying Rebels in 4-way Junior. HF Flying Circus added FAI bronze medals for the 3rd place on the European Championship leaderboard, HF Chameleons the world cup bronze medals in 4-way Junior.

The regular indoor competitions that Jan Klapka has been managing for years at the Hurricane Factory in Prague, including Czech Tunnel League League, Indoor Cloud League events and his unique 4-way junior project, have surely contributed heavily to the success of the Czech delegation at the indoor world cup.

HF Cubs, HF Flying Circus and HF Chameleons attended four 10-round meets in 2022 alone before traveling to Belgium, HF Flying Rebels three of the same events. The same four teams also contributed heavily to the Czech Indoor Cloud League account each month between January and April.

All four Czech FAI indoor medal winners were back in 4-way action just a month after the indoor world cup for their next ten rounds. The May meet of the Czech Tunnel League concluded the indoor winter season, and most of the Czech senior teams have transitioned to outdoor training and competition by now.

The 4-way junior teams continue with indoor training throughout the summer season, interrupted only by the school summer vacation. They will mostly take care of the Czech Indoor Cloud League scores and then be ready for new 10-round competition action as soon as the next winter season begins.

The last indoor competition of the 2021/2022 season turned out as a 1-point thriller between HF Flying Circus and HF Cubs. The 4-way Women world cup champions had won the indirect competition with the Czech Republic's national indoor and outdoor team in 4-way Open at the indoor world cup (285 - 260) in April. Both teams had their peak performances at the right time in Charleroi and took it easier on their home turf this month, even though the 10-round meet eventually became a 1-point battle.

Violeta Demeterova with the HF Dragonflies
The HF Chameleons also won their re-match with the HF Flying Rebels by four points (172 - 168), after a dominating performance by the Rebels at Airspace Charleroi (225 - 199), and the Brazilian Netunos separated the two Czech 4-way junior teams from the two senior teams with a new team record average. Netunos performed eight of the same May sequences in their home flying chamber at iFLY Sao Paulo.

Jan Klapka reported from the Czech Republic that the HF Flying Rebels completed their first competition with the new lineup, which allowed the HF Chameleons to take the 4-way junior top spot at the May meet. Both teams competed once again in the AAA Class, even though the 4-way Junior dive pool at FAI/ISC events is identical with the AA Class.

Jan Klapka had mentioned earlier that a change in the lineup of the HF Flying Rebels would be necessary to remain eligible for FAI medals in 4-way Junior. Maruska Psenickova, member of the world cup champion lineup in Charleroi, has grown out of the 4-way Junior category, and the Rebels would need a new team member for the indoor world meet next year.

There is no shortage of 4-way juniors in the Czech Republic, and Jan Klapka selected former HF Dragonflies member Violeta Demeterova for the tail slot. Martin Stransky moves to inside center, while Denisa Jeziakova (outside center) Krystof Rulf (point) continue together in the front piece. Violeta Demeterova has performed only the A Class dive pool with the Dragonflies in the past, and the two strongest Czech 4-way junior teams are now starting their new race for the top spot right away in the AAA Class...
