Did You Know...

... that Alola may turn the table in the re-match with SNE Fly Girls?

SNE Fly Girls at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
posted Jun 30th, 2023 - The first NSL Power Rankings of the 4-way Women competition at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2023 had only five teams on the leaderboard. The number of confirmed teams after the preview on June 9th has gone up to seven, which is already three higher than the participation at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022.

Nothing has changed for the same five teams with the expected finishing positions. However, the two newly listed teams still change the power situation, as the competition behind the Top 4 could become very interesting. The previous results and progression of the three teams, Thyra - SNE Fly Girls - Alola, may create a more competitive situation than expected.

The 4-way Women competition may need the additional excitement, as the situation did not seem to promise much battling, neither for the medal positions nor behind them. The NSL News will continue to gather as much information and insights as possible to provide realistic previews of the event, and the latest update added potential competition drama between the mentioned teams. U.S. team SNE Fly Girls and British team Alola know each other, while the young Norwegian home team Thyra will attend their first international FAI/ISC competition.

Re-match coming: Alola at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
In fact, SNE Fly Girls and Alola have a re-match in Norway. Both teams competed at the previous FAI Outdoor World Cup in Eloy 2019. That was four years ago, and they qualified and registered again for the next outdoor world cup, together with their respective national teams, XPG4 and NFTO.

Their most recent scores indicate that they are much closer to each other than they were in Eloy 2019, where the SNE Fly Girls finished 21 points ahead of Alola. The British team seems to be ready to turn the table in the re-match, after the 13.0 average at the British Outdoor Nationals 2022.

Norwegian home team Thyra is on the same scoring level, as the most recent indoor and outdoor scores indicate. However, they have the home advantage and train as much as possible to present their country as successfully as possible. They have experienced the taste and excitement of international competition, as well, when they traveled to Skydive Flanders in Zwartberg, Belgium, last year and attended the ESL Championship 2022. It was Thyra 's first AAA Class competition with an all-female lineup, and they are now Norway's national team in 4-way Women.

Danish Divas at the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012
Norway has a successful history in 4-way Women, which is probably well known in the host country. Polaris won FAI bronze medals for Norway at the outdoor world cup in Saarlouis 2011 and defended them successfully at the FAI Mondial Dubai 2012.

The outdoor world championship in 2012 had the largest participation in 4-way Women since the event was added to the FAI/ISC world championship format in 2001. Thyra will probably not be able to copy the Polaris success at this point in time. However, the team is so young and talented that FAI medals could be in reach in the near future, maybe already next year in Israel.

The largest 4-way Women event in 2012 also relates to a very recent topic that covered Denmark's 4-way Open Class team Sequenz. The NSL News pointed out that original Sequenz member Vibeke Birk Tideman is not coming back with the team this year, after accomplishing her goal to compete at a world championship, which turned out to be the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 with Sequenz.

However, the event in Eloy last year was actually Vibeke Birk Tideman's second world championship. She competed with Denmark's 4-way Women team Danish Divas in Dubai 2012. The 13.6 average made the second cut for the 6th place of 14 teams and was on the same scoring level where Sequenz performed last year. Thyra, SNE Fly Girls and Alola will have to beat this 2012 average to win the battle for the 5th place this August.
