Did You Know...

... that Satori went from 3-1 to 1-3 in four years?

Tough job to keep up with the well trained top teams: Pickup team XL at the World Challenge 2011
posted Apr 14th, 2011 - The second day of the World Challenge 2011 started out as it had to be expected. The sequence of Round 6 would not allow any team to make a big move. The four top contenders for the money slots scored within two points, and it would have been only one point without the deductions for NMP-PCH Hayabusa and Arizona Airspeed.

Hayabusa lost another point to Airspeed, but it did not change the big picture, as the Belgians still had a 7-point lead. Aerodyne Aerokart Maubeuge began the second half of the meet with a sole highscore and would end up as the winner of the last five rounds on Sunday. It was also the French start of the work to take the 3rd place away from XL.

XL was two points ahead of Maubeuge after winning Round 3 by six points and saved this lead throughout Saturday's rounds. France then won all five rounds over XL on Sunday and eventually finished where the well trained team was expected to be - in the Top 3 rankings.

Three boys and a girl: Satori in 2011
The NSL News mentioned in an earlier story that the British national team of 2010, Satori, surprised the 4-way community with a great performance of the new lineup. Satori had not spent much time with new Point Ian Hodgkinson who replaced Katie Woods this year.

Satori actually ended up one spot higher than at the World Challenge 2010, and the 7th place was only one point away.

SonicNutz, probably Satori's number one challenger for this year's gold medals at the UK Nationals, finished far behind Satori and has some work ahead to get close enough and make it more difficult for UK's national team later this year.

Satori's Center Outside, Julia Foxwell, told the NSL News that her team was really happy to just continue this year: "With Katie leaving, and us not having the funds to train like we have been for the past three years, we were unsure as to who could slot in without us dropping our average significantly. We are really pleased with how things are going with Milko."

Three girls and a boy: Satori in 2008
Satori spent approx. 1.5 hours in the tunnel with the new Point, and this year's average at the World Challenge was not that far behind last year's scores. Julia Foxwell said that the World Challenge almost felt like training: "Each round, we were becoming more and more familiar and stronger than in the previous one."

Satori still has the support of Skydive Spain and the UK sister dropzone Skydive Hibaldstow and will be training there for a week, maybe more. Julia Foxwell also reported that Satori now has six 4-way teams under the Satori Academy umbrella who train in all competition classes. The Satori members are coaching the teams at the same training locations to prepare them for the UK Nationals 2011.

Finally, she was looking back at the Satori history, which began at the end of the 2007 season, and how the team's face has changed. The first lineup consisted of three girls and a boy (Julia Foxwell, Katie Woods, Liz Matthews, Aaron Faith). Satori's gender proportions have changed over the years, and Julia Foxwell is the only girl now. She and Aaron Faith are still two of the original members.
