Did You Know...

... that the Altidudes moved up into the AA Class competition?

New Tail last weekend: Brazil Fenix
posted Jun 20th, 2011 - Arizona Frenzy members Jocelyn Bernatchez and Ian Mackenzie hosted last weekend's 4-way competition of the Arizona Skydiving League at Skydive Arizona. The event was only planned to be five rounds in order to avoid jumping in the dangerous heat of the Arizona summer afternoon. Thanks to the efforts of manifest, staff and pilots all rounds were completed before the afternoon's dust devils turned up.

The Brazillian women's team Fenix had attended the Valentine's Meet 2011 and came back in time for last weekend's meet with a slightly different lineup. Lailla Surcin was flying the Tail slot at this meet. The second visit of the Brazilian team lead to an exciting race for the first place with local team Cold Fusion who competed with the original lineup that trains for the USPA Nationals this year (Inside Center Remi Aguila, Outside Center Eric Forshee, Point Bekie Thompson, Tail Jose Aguilera, Camera Mark Walck).

Both teams first faced off at this year's Valentine's Day Meet in February, where Fenix won only after Cold Fusion lost most of one round's points due to a camera glitch. This time, Fenix took the AA Class competition outright by three points over Cold Fusion after another close race.

Different lineup at the Valentine's Meet: Altidudes
The Altidudes also came back after competing at the Valentine's Meet 2011. Just as Cold Fusion, the Altitdudes are also preparing for the USPA Nationals. They started in the A Class in February and have now moved up into the AA Class competition, which is identical with USPA's Intermediate Class. The Altidudes' scoring average after five rounds in the AA Class was almost the same as after six rounds in the A Class in February.

Last weekend's Altidudes' lineup (Inside Center Alex Swindle, Outside Center Dave Linkiewicz, Point Chris Anderson, Tail Jason Jones, Camera Gordon Lindsay) was slightly different compared to the Valentien's Meet. Dave Linkiewicz filled in just for the day as his own team, Code 99, couldn't make the meet. The Altidudes recently picked up Ian Mackenzie as their player coach for the remainder of the 2011 season, as Arizona Frenzy takes a year off from competition.

4-way newcomers: The Leftovers
Ian Mackenzie was otherwise occupied at the meet helping the 4-way newcomers of The Leftovers (Inside Center Ian Mackenzie, Outside Center Paulo Queiroga, Point Kelly Griffen, Tail Houssam Abbas, with Terry Schumacher on camera) through their first competition.

Carnifour completed the 5-team field and competed as a local pickup team. Some Carnifour members are training with other 4-way teams for the USPA Nationals, while others prepare to compete in different disciplines in October. The pickup team went home with the bronze medals.

Arizona Frenzy member Jocelyn Bernatchez reported that the day finished off with an informal awards ceremony at the Bent Prop and a viewing of all the jumps of the day.
