Did You Know...

... that Denmark has selected the three 4way project lineups for 2012?

Flemming Borup Andersen at the SDC Rhythm XP tryouts
posted Dec 19th, 2011 - The SDC Rhythm XP tryouts last weekend relate to more than only the future of the bronze medalist at the 3rd Dubai Championship 2011. Each candidate brought a separate career story to the Rhythm table, even though Christy Frikken's and Chris Farina's are very similar.

The NSL News introduced each candidate briefly, and Flemming Borup Andersen from Denmark related to Bodyflight Voluntas, Denmark's national 4way team. Flemming Borup Andersen was a member for three years (2009 - 2011) and still continued with the team in 2011 after joining Perris Blitz and while he prepared his move to the USA.

Bodyflight Voluntas eventually had to find a replacement for him, which became part of a new team selection process for Denmark's 4way project and the 2012 season.

The committee in charge for the selection once again put together three lineups for next year. Bodyflight Voluntas continues with three members of 2011 (Peter Andersen, Martin Mikkelsen, Ulrik Høgsberg) and is the strongest and most experienced one of the three national teams.

Kasper Brandt-Svanekier comes back into the 2012 lineup after sitting out for a year due to his work situation. He has been a long time member of the project and trained and competed with Voluntas in 2009 and 2010.

Jesper Rasmussen is the new team videographer. He was the Outside Center for the DaneZ, Demark's national 4way team between 2004 and 2006 who continued to compete until 2008. He has now decided to come back as a team member in the video slot for Bodyflight Voluntas.

The new lineup is eager to begin with training. Center Inside Martin Søeby Mikkelsen reported that his team has high expectations considering three returning members and the comeback of a national record-setting Voluntas member of 2010. Voluntas will be ready to pursue the unofficial title of the amateur world champion next year and take the top spot of 4way teams in Scandinavia. Dynamic Fource (Netherlands) and Pro Team (Finland) had those slots in 2010.

Bodyflight Voluntas is still in the planning and scheduling process. However, the start of the 2012 season will definitely once again include the Shamrock Showdown. The first training camp of the 2012 season will precede the competition in DeLand.

The Voluntas 2011 lineup had finished with a 15.3 average in 10th place at the Shamrock Showdown 2011.

Bodyflight Atlas at the Shamrock Showdown 2011
Denmark's other two project teams of 2011, Bodyflight Atlas and Bodyflight Factum, have quite a few changes in their lineups, as well. They ended up almost exactly on the same scoring and performance level at the end of Denmark's 2011 season and needed a jumpoff round to break the tie at the national championships.

The second project team for 2012 will have Maria Brøgger Rasmussen, Anne Mine Petersen, John Behrendt and Stefan Rosenberg in the lineup, with Michael Boe Laigaard on camera.

Anne Mine Petersen and Stefan Rosenberg were both members of project team Bodyflight Factum this year, while John Behrendt was competing with Bodyflight Atlas who won the jumpoff for the bronze medals by one point. Maria Brøgger Rasmussen has not been training 4way for some years but competed with Joyride at Danish Nationals 2011. Videographer Michael Boe Laigaard was filming Bodyflight Voluntas at the national championships this year. Martin Mikkelsen said that the second project team has great potential: "The new Team 2 has five very good fliers with a great deal of 4-way experience between them. We are very excited to see what they can achieve."

Switches to camera: Brian Gregersen with the Bodyflight Voluntas 2010 lineup
The third project team consists of Christian Gufler, Peter Stræde, Hans Oksen, Mads Jensen, with Brian Gregersen on camera. Peter Stræde, Hans Oksen and Mads Jensen trained and competed with Contrails in 2011. Christian Gufler placed right before his future team mates with Chute Me at the national championships.

Brian Gregersen is making the same move to camera as Jesper Rasmussen. He is a former Voluntas member and also competed with Vol:Danez at the Danish Nationals 2011.

Martin Mikkelsen said that the members of the third project team have the luxury of knowing each other very well. The three Contrails members have been flying together in 2010 and 2011, and Christian Gufler joined Contrails already before the selection process began. The team plans for 2012 were in the works at that time. Then the entire team was selected to be a part of the Danish team project. Martin Mikkelsen added that all competitors know how important consistency is to reach team goals. The selection committee is looking forward to seeing what the new lineups can do with the great opportunity they have been given.
