posted Jul 24th, 2004 - This weekend's competition is already on the way, while the results of the last NSL SkyVenture Competition are now posted below. It took longer than usual since it was a very busy weekend with a total of 50 teams competing at the same time at several locations in the USA, and also at additional skydiving centers in Europe.

The Northwest, MidAtlantic, CanAm, Northern Plains, Midwest and Indiana Skydiving League held competitions on the July 17 weekend, while teams in Switzerland, Finland and Estonia used the same competition draw in Europe. It was the first time that teams from Switzerland joined the European league business, while Finland participated already for the second time. The competition in Finland was the national championship, and the NSL News will follow up with more details of a history-making event soon.

The MASL team Down to Earth posted the highest raw average after six rounds at the Karp Cup (12.7) and finished in second place after handicap. The five AAA Class teams from Finland and Switzerland each completed eight rounds, their total number of points and averages are according to the scores after eight rounds.

The AA Class competition was also limited to four rounds with weather problems in Indiana and the Northwest. 15 NSL teams were in the race for 30 minutes of free SkyVenture tunnel time. The European Skydiving League has not adopted the AA Class dive pool yet. Kaizen of the Great Lakes Skydiving League visited the Karp Cup at Cross Keys and posted scores from a different planet. The team's 12.7 average after six rounds was far ahead of the NWSL team Elsinore Vengeance in second place with a 9.2 average before handicap.

The race for the free SkyVenture tunnel time took place between teams of lower positions in the national rankings. Cross Keys Air Pollution and Fast Fourward of the Northern Plains Skydiving League were separated by only 0.54 points after four rounds and after handicap. The Cross Keys team won the 30 free minutes and can decide whether to travel to Orlando or Perris for the next tunnel training.

The European teams were back into the race of the A Class, which has been adopted by the ESL. Four ESL teams competed together with nine NSL teams in this class that has become more popular recently. The Furies of the Midwest Skydiving League attended their third meet of the 2004 season (2.2 - 3.7 - 3.8) and were finally rewarded for the team's consistent efforts. The all-female team began the team career last year in the MWSL Rookie Class and stepped up into the A Class for the 2004 season. The July 17 competition was the first time for the Furies to win the 30-minute SkyVenture certificate. The Finish team Overload was the highest scoring team before handicap with a 7.0 meet average with the Estonian team Tumbleweeds shortly behind (6.9) in second place.

Four Rookie Class teams competed on the same weekend, three of them attended the MWSL meet at the Sky Knights in East Troy, Wisconsin. The Sirens (1.5 - 4.0 - 5.2) and Nite Hooker and the Pimps (1.8 - 3.0 - 4.5) both attended their third MWSL meet this year and have both improved their performances consistently. The Sirens, another MWSL all-female team, came up in first place before and after handicap last weekend and will receive ten free minutes of SkyVenture tunnel time. The A Class and Rookie Class competition of the Midwest Skydiving League is very close and offers exciting competition between the local teams at each meet.
