Did You Know...

... that a British AAA Class team competed in California?

posted Jun 4th, 2007 - Today's first NSL News story covered the British part of last weekend's international competition. The story included the fact that no AAA Class teams competed at UK's Grand Prix competition in Langar. However, this was not the complete truth since one British AAA Class team posted scores last weekend.

Perris Storm is the same team that the NSL News already introduced with the story on January 24, only the team name has changed slightly. The line-up is still the same, with Hannah Betts (Center Inside), Sarah Smith (Point), Claire "Sparky" Scott (Center Outside) and Kate Stephens (Tail). Gary Wainwright is filming the team.

NSL News Interview with Team Elan
The team is one of the two most serious contenders for the British slot at next year's World Meet in France in FAI's female category of the 4-way event. It is not only true that Perris Storm competed last weekend at the second meet of the California Skydiving League 2007. The team's performance in Round 4 is also the first new video on NSL-TV.

The British race between Team Elan and Perris Storm was opened at the World Challenge 2007 where Team Elan posted a 20.3 average after the ten in-door rounds at Bodyflight Bedford. The NSL News story on May 3 included a live interview with Team Elan members in Bedford after the conclusion of the tunnel competition.

Arizona Directe
Last weekend, it was time for Perris Storm to strike back and post some impressive scores, and the team did so. The 17.8 average after six rounds included two quick sequences in rounds one and four. The 24-pointer in Round 4 (D-5-O-K) can now be viewed on NSL-TV, thanks to team videographer Gary Wainwright who provided the video file.

It seems as if both British female teams are very close to each other. It is impossible to compare the scores directly with each other. However, the scores of the teams that competed at the World Challenge 2007 seem to reflect a similar difference to their own out-door results. Team Elan's 20.3 in-door average could be very close to Perris Storm's out-door results last weekend.

Perris Storm had a very interested observer from Arizona at last weekend's meet in Perris. Gary Beyer visisted from Eloy and competed with his own team, Arizona Directe, at the SCSL meet, while the Arizona Skydiving League was running its own separate event in Eloy.

Gary Beyer with Team Elan
Gary Beyer's wife, Emma Beyer, flies the Point position for Team Elan, and her husband is coaching the British team. He was surely interested to see how the other top contender would perform at this point in time.

Perris Storm did obviously very well, and the former Airspeed world champion just saved a 1-point advantage for his own team, Arizona Directe, after the six rounds. It was a very close race, and Perris Storm lost the meet in Round 6 with a 4-point loss in this one round.

Dan BC is Gary Beyer's former 8-way team mate, and he now coaches the British opponent in the female category, Perris Storm. He filled Arizona Directe's slot for John Eagle after Round 2 and challenged the team that he is coaching at the same time. More meet information from the competition in Perris will follow later.
